Guides
Migrate & Restore
Use this guide to move Elmony settings to a new machine or restore them from automatic backups.
Elmony app data directory
This directory stores settings, database files, and backups. Copying it between machines migrates your configuration.
| OS | Path | How to access |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming\elmony | Press Windows + R, type %APPDATA%\elmony, and hit Enter. |
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/elmony | In Finder, press Cmd + Shift + G, enter the path above, and press Enter. |
| Linux | ~/.config/elmony | Open your file manager, show hidden files, and navigate to .config/elmony. |
Key files include sqlite.db (your local database) and user-settings.json.
There’s also a backups folder containing automatic snapshots.
Before you start
- Back up the destination machine’s existing files before overwriting them.
- This migration moves settings only. Copy your app code (~/elmony-apps or C:\\Users\\[You]\\elmony-apps) separately.
Migrate settings
- Export from the old computer: open the app data directory, copy
sqlite.dbanduser-settings.json. - Import on the new computer: close Elmony, back up existing files, then paste the ones from your old machine (overwriting when prompted).
- Launch Elmony: open the app; it will load the migrated settings.
Restoring from backups
Elmony stores automatic backups in backups/. Each folder name uses this format:
[New Version]_[Timestamp]_upgrade_from_[Old Version].
- Close Elmony.
- Pick the backup folder that matches the point you want to restore.
- Copy
sqlite.dbanduser-settings.jsonfrom that folder. - Back up your current files, then paste the backup versions into the main data directory (overwriting).
- Reopen Elmony to confirm the restore.
